Discussion sites have different levels of support for formatting. ProBoards allows direct formatting of posts (color, bold, italics, underline, strikeout), but unfortunately, all this formatting is lost in copy-and-post. So, posts with extensive formatting have to be reformatted, or minimize the use of formatting.
Spacing and tabs are also lost on copy-and post.
Attachments are allowed, but I am wary of using WORD (.doc) or Excel (.xls) attachments as some of the personal information may carryover from the PC in the document properties - it isn't obvious, but it is there for someone to look. I didn't find this issue with .pdf attachments. Some sites make attachments their own, so personal information doesn't carryover. Be sure to check these details before posting attachments at discussion forums and social-media.

Here is a MFO post that points to these issues at various sites (reformatted after copy-and-paste).

CAPITALIZATION vs Bold
All CAPS are screaming. That would be bad as would be all bold.
But selected CAPITALIZATIONS often substitute for bold at many discussion forums.
Many sites don't have bold (Facebook, Twitter, etc). Some that have it don't support it on copy-and-paste (including MFO, ProBoards, etc). This is an issue for those who compose long posts on WORD and then paste it - much of the formatting is lost, bold, italics, color (none anyway at MFO, M*), tabs, spacing, etc. It is too cumbersome to reformat everything after copy-and-paste.
BTW, MFO isn't user-friendly for tabular materials; often, the URLs have to be reposted/redone; as noted above, colors aren't supported; attachments cannot be included.
Anyway, selected CAPITALIZATION for bold is a typical practice that I also follow.
