M* Discussions Become Closed/Private, 3/10/23
M* Discussions now require login for access.
That is VERY unfortunate. So, any old links to posts on M* Discussions won't work for nonmembers elsewhere (e.g. here). M* has basically become a private/closed discussion board (like Fidelity Investor Community, and more recently, Armchairinvesting).
It seems that the main Home Morningstar.com still has open-access to articles. My guess is that would remain so because lot of them are now posted with teasers on Facebook and Twitter.
Other recent M* degradations have included the elimination of indexing page for posts, inoperative Search and DM/PM system, linking only to threads, not posts, etc.

A post at Big Bang big-bang-investors.proboards.com/thread/2357/charts-deactivated?page=1&scrollTo=34631M* "Charts" deactivated(Reply) Post by yogibearbull (3/19/23) This may be the next step after M* Discussions went private (around mid-February 2023). I can access the Charts on login, but I get the same message without login ("Invalid Security"). I also see a button for 7-day free trial of M* Investor, $249/yr after the free period. It seems that the M* Home will have open-access for very limited stuff only - Articles, Quotes, etc (my guess). M* Investor subscription will be needed for other content. However, the new M* Investor Portfolio feature is still bad but M* has indicated that the old M* Portfolio will be available until the new one is at least as good as the old one. Edit/Add 3/20/23. M* Charts are working now WITHOUT login.

This thread contains changes to M* from 2023 onwards. These were scattered within the other threads. M* Forum layout changes & access links are in this post on 2/16/23, and this thread/post is left as self-standing. It's also linked elsewhere and when posts are moved, their old links may be broken. ybbpersonalfinance.proboards.com/thread/401/discussions-forum-links

M* Investor Screenerwww.mutualfundobserver.com/discuss/discussion/comment/164824/#Comment_164824In my quick search with M* Investor Screener yesterday (6/22/23), I missed some usual hybrid favorites because: 1. M* has (again) changed allocation/balanced categories to descriptors: Conservative, Moderate-Conservative, Moderate, Moderate-Aggressive, Aggressive. IMO, it's good as I never liked the %based names (like Allocation/Balanced 30-50%, etc). BTW, a new M* Category document that is typically published in April but is overdue (in the past, M* has just slipped in the new document but still with the April date). 2. Another recent M* change has separate ratings for classes, so the M* Investor Screener now shows zillions of AF classes that overwhelm the list. There is no way to suppress that (the old Screener had "Distinct Classes Only" option and that showed either the oldest class or that with the lowest ER). IMO, M* can leave the default as-is but add "Distinct Classes Only" option. 3. Some old favorites are Bronze or Neutral now. That can be explained by the terrible 2022 for hybrids that affected them differently (growth-oriented hybrids suffered more). But I doubt that many holders would swap out of them because of that. I noticed that but limited my mentions to Analysts Ratings of Gold/Silver only. For example, JABAX, a hybrid choice in my Schwab DAF is now Neutral, but if it remains that way, Schwab will likely kick it out and replace with something else. Another recent M* change is the elimination of computer-generated Q-ratings. Justification provided is that the computer-generated ratings are now as good as genuine Analyst Ratings - may be a wishful thinking. I see lots of gobbledygook in the computer-generated ratings reports. M* needs more work on "Mo", its version of AI chatbot, or just use ChatGPT or Bard in the meantime. FWIW, M* Analyst Ratings are forward-looking and based on multiple factors, while the Star-Ratings are purely based on past performance over 3, 5, 10 years (weighted). With old regular and Q ratings, this covered universe is now substantial.

M* Investor UpdatesPrior link from mid-2022, ybbpersonalfinance.proboards.com/post/669/threadI checked M* Investor after a long while. So, basically, things updated in old M* Portfolio are automatically reflected in new M* Investor and almost vice versa I am not sure about the reverse. The buy/sell/delete are automatically updated both ways. But dividends can only be auto-refreshed in the old M* Portfolio, and are then automatically reflected in the new M* Investor. There is no way to auto-update dividends directly in the new M* Investor - those can be entered manually, or it can get those from the linked-account, and it treats old M* Portfolio as linked-account. This is a big help for those who are already familiar with old M* Portfolio Editing/Updating. Performance tabs for portfolios look almost the same as "My Performance" pages in the old M* Portfolio. So, the information is provided on Total Returns, Personal Returns (i.e., including any personal transactions), and index returns annually for up to 10 years, and then monthly for last 12 months (the Menu tab says Trailing 12 Months, but it means PAST 12 Months). This is followed by similar information for each holding (it seems to be open always; the old M* Portfolio had a click to Hide/Show these holding details). But missing are the total return data for 1-week, 1-month, 3-monts, YTD, 1-year, 3-years, 10-years, Since Purchase, and Custom Dates; these data are in the bottom half of "My Performance" page in the old M* Portfolio, and could possibly be added later. The old M* Portfolio was/is a unique product and I doubt that the new M* Investors will ever approximate/emulate it fully. The new M* Investor started out as a tool for linked-brokerage-accounts, with some M* analytics slapped on, and M* has made lots of improvements in its features after vigorous complaints. Anyway, things are much improved and the old M* Portfolio users can hang on to the new M* Investor rather than looking for alternatives. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I am also using Stock Rover (SR), so I have 2 different portfolio systems going for now.
