Edit/Add, 6/1/23. It is valid to question how the TIAA can keep the Traditional rates so high. A simple answer is that the Traditional is supported by the TIAA General Account, and the TIAA can keep Traditional rates at whatever level it is comfortable with after all of its expenses and filling up its reserves. Also note that RA vintages range from 4.00-6.60%, so the blended RA rate may not be as high as the current or the highest-vintage rate. But one should be aware of the rest of the stable-value (SV) fund landscape, especially, those run as separate accounts. These have similar issues that the banks face today - higher rates have caused their fixed-income portfolios to be underwater. The SV rate mechanism compensates for this by LOWERING the current crediting rate (this reverses when the portfolios have gain when the rates drop). So, the separate account SVs LAG when the rates rise, and LEAD when the rates fall. For example, Vanguard SV fund (a CIT) has the best rate of 2.47% only; the TIAA also offers a separate account type SV (it is called TSV or TIAA SV), and although its rates aren't published widely, those are much lower. institutional.vanguard.com/investments/product-details/fund/0338ybbpersonalfinance.proboards.com/thread/451/math-stable-value-separate-accountsBut, so far so good. TIAA Declaration Year 3/1 - 2/28 Restricted RC 5.50%, RA 5.25% Flexible RCP 4.75%, SRA 4.50%, Newer IRAs 4.75% TSP G Fund hasn't updated yet (previous 4.125%). Edit/Add. March rate is 4.375%. WARNING. Normally, these rates are published by TIAA on the last business day of the month. But they weren't posted yesterday, 2/29/24, and not even posted now, 3/1/24, 7:30 AM. So, I called TIAA this morning and asked the Rep about them. He said that the rates were available internally, but the staff hadn't posted them yet. He was kind enough to provide me the info on the phone, & I went over the info again with him. Hopefully, this will be confirmed when the info is finally updated at TIAA website.
UPDATE. TIAA updated the rate info in the evening of 3/1/24, and the new rates are indeed as indicated above. Payout table doesn't seem updated, so the info below may be revised.
